Open Innovation, we’re getting somewhere.

Open Innovation, we’re getting somewhere.

Last week I attended a meeting from SWOCC (Scientific Research on Commercial Communication from the University of Amsterdam). Once in a while they have meetings to show their researches. This time the meeting concerned ’social media, people and brands’. A meeting about the impact of social media and the consumer on brands. The meeting started with two researchers who showed their results on either social media and product review sites. Quit nice researches but not that revolutionary.

But after the break there was a presentation that had inspiration and energy written all over it. The presentation was given by Johan Sanders (innovation director at Sara Lee). He showed the packed room how Sara Lee works with open innovation. It was a inspiring presentation that showed me how corporate brands are making steps towards the consumer. The consumer was taking power into their own hands online with productreview sites, blogs and social networks. But now Sara Lee, and off course some other corporate brands, reaches out to the consumer to work together. Check out their website and the presentations from Johan Sanders. Co creation is getting more and more attention and a proven value.
