Why didn’t I think of that? Open ceilings.

Why didn’t I think of that? Open ceilings.

You know that feeling? You see a product and the first thing that pops up in your mind is ‘Why in hell didn’t i think of this?’. In fact, I had this feeling not long ago.

I woke up, took a cup of coffee, switched on my laptop and there it was. An email that brought up that feeling. The same feeling you have when you see a BIC pen or a paperclip. Why didn’t I think of that?

The e-mail contained info about a new company in the Netherlands, Openceilings. This company created an ingenious and attractive alternative to the depressing dropped/suspended ceiling that you often see in hospitals or at the dentist. Ceilings in those kind of buildings often make me aware that it isn’t a place of fun. While in fact, you often leave a hospital or dentist with a releaved feeling. The dentist pulled out that painfull tooth or the docter helped you out with your appendix.

How does it work? OpenCeilings replace the old ceiling tiles for illuminated, high resolution photo panels that represent a blue sky, clouds and blossoming trees. They want to transform ceilings into a ‘skylight’, transforming confined interiors into fresh and open spaces.

Back tot the hospital. OpenCeilings can contribute to the creation of a Healing Environment. Several empirical studies show that natural elements, even simulated, can trigger a response of relaxation. This response will therefore, reduce the stress levels for patients. Reduced stress levels are proven to be beneficial for their healing process. An OpenCeiling can also provide much needed distraction for people during stressful MRI/ CT scans, radiology treatments or dental procedures.

It all makes sense! Doesn’t it? So the questions is, why didn’t you think of that?!
