Not long ago Google introduced a service which allows anyone to run your own commercial on national TV. This system, Google’s TV Ads, is based on the Adwords interface.

Seth Stevenson tried this out. He was able to buy some airtime for his homemade commercial on Fox News. This spot was played seven times and seen by over one million people. It all resulted in over a thousand hits to the promoted site in the commercial.

This all perfectly suits the discussions in the creative business today. What will concepts like this and others like logo design competitions do with the creative business. Like Stevenson says in his own video “the advertising industry won’t crumble overnight, but it’s easy to see that the barriers have been lowered.”

There’s in fact a lot of creativity among amateur designers. But will we all benefit from low budget commercials?

The ad is a nice manifestation on how Google managed to be a very important adviser in our lifes.

Almost a month ago, Google introduced a new product again. This time its Google Sidewiki which is integrated in your Google Toolbar. Sidewiki is a tool that offers the consumer to make comments about any website, including corporate brand websites. On the left side of your page is a screen where you can find reviews and opinions from people around the world about the website you’re visiting. That means that products, brands and organisations are on a constant pressure of reviews from consumers. Your sidewiki messages are easily spread on e-mail, twitter or facebook. Monitoring your brand online is conveniently arranged but you’ll have to work hard to maintain your reputation…

Here a demonstration about how Sidewiki works.
